GET RID OF STUBBORN FAT WITH LIPOSUCTION

Inappropriate diet and a sedentary lifestyle cause fat accumulation in the whole body. However, in some people, this fat accumulates only in certain parts of the body, causing an unpleasant appearance.

Moreover, this regional fat tissue formation can be permanent despite sticking to a diet and doing sports.

Fat removal procedure, popularly known as ‘Liposuction’, is a surgical method that aims to re-shape the body by removing the stubborn fat tissue often accumulated in areas such as the hips, jowl, legs, knees, and abdomen. Liposuction is a procedure performed under general or local anesthesia, with a short recovery time. Since some people cannot get rid of these stubborn fats despite their diet and exercising, liposuction is the best way to regain their self-confidence related to their physical appearance. Apart from improving one’s looks, this method can also be beneficial when there are differences in the lower and upper body measurements, i.e., proportions. In cases when the upper body is of a gentle and fragile constitution, accumulated fat on the lower body parts can disrupt the harmony between the lower body and the upper body. Thanks to liposuction, which is effective in eliminating the inequalities between the body parts, fat can be removed from target areas. Since such lower-upper body incompatibilities cause difficulties in finding suitable clothes for people, weight inequalities can be easily eliminated by liposuction. This is one of the reasons why liposuction types applied with different techniques are among the most preferred aesthetic surgery operations in our country and worldwide.

Fat accumulates in different zones in male and female bodies

Since the body structures of men and women are different from one another, excess and stubborn fat also tends to collect in different regions. Women usually complain about stubborn fat in areas such as hips and belly. Men, on the other hand, notice accumulation on the back, abdomen, chest and sides of the waist. Apart from all these, liposuction is a very good solution for the fatty tissues in the armpit area, which cannot be solved by doing sports, especially for women. The area under the chin, where fat deposites are formed with each weight gain, is another body region that spoils the image and that cannot be solved through diets and sports. Thanks to liposuction, stubborn fat accumulated under the chin can easily be removed. Another advantage of this method is the fact that there are no visible traces left in the sub-chin tissue after liposuction.

Excessive armpit sweating is another issue that both women and men complain about. This condition disrupts the comfort of everyday life. Laser lipolysis method is an effective solution to this problem.

Liposuction is not a solution for sagging skin

The best way to increase the comfort of life of patients in medicine is to listen to the patient, learn about their expectations, explain well what medicine can do, and meet the expectations of the patients with realistic medical procedure outcomes. The fat removal method is not a miracle. However, when it is applied to the appropriate people with the appropriate method, it makes a very important contribution to the correction of the complaints.

Liposuction is the surgical removal of regional fat accumulated in the body. Conditions such as skin sagging and cellulite that occur after pregnancy and childbirth are not disorders that can be eliminated by liposuction. Although the liposuction method does not completely eliminate the formation of cellulite tissue in the body, application to the area close to the skin surface helps to obtain a smoother skin appearance when viewed from the outside. In people who constantly gain and lose weight, their skin structure deteriorates and skin sagging occurs. These are conditions that are not possible to be solved with liposuction only. It is important and necessary to perform tummy tuck and sagging skin removal operations if the fat removal method is to be applied in people whose skin structure is deteriorated due to constant weight gain and sagging. In order to maintain the obtained result for a long time, it is of great importance to make permanent changes in eating habits, to apply them throughout a lifetime, and to exercise regularly.

The diversity in fat removal methods in recent years has provided the advantage of using the method in different regions. Not only body shaping, but also different possibilities such as tightening the skin and removing the sebaceous glands are available. In cases where sound and laser-assisted applications need to be done at the same time, such as smoothing the skin and absorbing the oil, successful results are obtained in the more sensitive parts of the body. These sensitive areas include areas such as wrists and ankles, inner knees, neck areas, and zone under the chin.

What are the different liposuction methods?

Developing technology contributes to the development of medical methods in the field of health, as in any other field. Continuously developing technologies not only increase the variety of liposuction procedures, but also increase the percentage of success. Today, 5 different methods are used for fat removal:

Vacuum-supported Liposuction: In this technique, before the fat is removed, a mixture of liquid is injected into the target area, under local or general anesthesia. Then, with the help of thin cannulas, a 2 mm incision is made in the area where the fat will be taken out from, and the excess fat is removed.

Ultrasound Liposuction: In this method, which is more easily applied than the classical fat removal method, the doctor uses ultrasound waves. With the help of these waves, only the targeted fat cells are affected. The efficiency of this method, which is performed without damaging the surrounding tissues, is also among the main reasons for choosing this treatment.

Power-assisted Liposuction: Special movable cannulas are used in this method, which is preferred when fat removal is applied on larger areas. Excess adipose tissue accumulating in these areas is effectively removed in a shorter time thanks to the mobile cannulas.

Water-assisted Liposuction: Water is injected under the skin with the help of cannulas into the area where there is regional fat tissue accumulation. With the effect of water, the fat is turned into a slurry and a moving liquid, and is therefore easily sucked out with the help of thin cannulas.

Radiofrequency-assisted Liposuction: In this method, after the fat absorption stage, the skin is heated with laser, making it tighter. Since the loosening of the skin will be prevented, this is one of the most popular liposuction methods.

How long does the fat removal process last?

Liposuction procedures take from 1 to 3 hours on average. Although the amount of fat to be taken out is different for each patient, it is possible to remove more fat based on the surgeon’s examination and the patient’s complaint. The medically prescribed amount is between 2.5 and 4.5 liters per day on average.

Is liposuction done under local or general anesthesia?

Before liposuction, the part of the body that will be treated is marked. Taking a photo before the procedure may be preferred in order to better see the result obtained after the procedure. Fat removal can be performed under local and general anesthesia. Since regional pain will occur, a liquid containing pain relievers and substances that reduce bleeding by narrowing the blood vessels are given to alleviate the pain in the target area.

Are there any scars left after the procedure?

Before performing the liposuction in the target area, thin incisions of approximately 2 millimeters are made in the marked skin zone and thin cannulas (tubes) are inserted through the incisions. Since these cannulas are connected to a vacuum machine, they absorb the liquefied fat. The vacuum pipe is moved on the surface in order to break up the local stubborn fats more easily and to quickly drain them. After the procedure is over, the incisions are left open for a short time so that the formed fluid flows out and to prevent occurence of edema. When the operation is completed, these small incisions are stitched and bandaged. After liposuction, it is necessary to stay in the hospital for one night.

What should be considered after the operation?

After about 4 weeks after the liposuction, having in mind that this period can sometimes be a little bit longer, the bandages remain on the treated area. In order to avoid edema and bruising, it is necessary to follow the doctor’s recommendations. Within a few days, it is possible to return to work or daily life. However, in order to prevent edema, it is important to avoid intense exercises, drink plenty of water, not use substances that cause edema such as alcohol, not smoke, and get plenty of rest. All these actions help to get through the post-procedure period with less pain and less complaints. In order to prevent infection, painkillers and antibiotics should be used with the advice of a doctor.

What should be done to prevent re-gain of fatty accumulations?

It is necessary to make an effort to ensure that the result obtained with liposuction is permanent. For this reason, it is important to implement a nutrition program rich in fiber foods, vegetables and low-fat proteins, and to comply with this diet program throughout a lifetime. In some cases, removing more fat than necessary can cause “collapses” in the treated area. When the liposuction treatment is performed by experienced and skilled doctors, it gives extremely successful results. Since liposuction procedures are body shaping methods that give fast results, they are among the treatments especially preferred by men and women who go to work.
